About the illustrations: Art is for everyone

You may have noticed that there are some illustrations on most of my blog posts. Yes, they are mine. These drawings are the byproduct of sixteen years sitting in Twelve Step meetings, trying to listen and not fly out of my body. I use the act of drawing to stay focused. And the result is a lot of silly pictures.

I was looking through some of my old journals and came across some characters that made me laugh. That always seems like a good thing to me. So I'm putting them in this blog. Maybe you will find them amusing too.

Like this one on the left, for instance. This is my mother, in case you hadn't guessed. The resemblance is remarkable.

And this one cracks me up. It's so stupid. Sorry if you find it offensive.

I've been drawing since I was a kid. I've tried to stop but I can't. I used to wish that people would pay me money to draw. But finally I realized that I only want to draw what I want. I don't want to be an illustrator and have other people tell me what to draw. That is art made to order. Death for an artist.

My desire to self-express has not been lucrative, let's put it that way. Maybe someday I'll find a way to earn a living from making my art. Until that time comes, here's to free art. Art is for everyone.

You can find some drawings at TheChronicMalcontent Etsy Store.
